No health without mental health, says President Pranab Mukherjee during visit to NIMHANS

President Pranab Mukherjee dedicated the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences(NIMHANS), Bangalore to the nation as an Institute of national importance on 22 December, 2015. Speaking at the occasion in NIMHANS, Bangalore the President also added that the Mental Health Bill that is under consideration is a step  towards better healthcare for persons with mental illness.

President Mukherjee also inaugurated a Magneto Encephalography Research Center that will specialize in a non-invasive technique to investigate human brain activity, and the NIMHANS Heritage Museum, a unique space that charts out NIMHANS’ journey from a mental asylum to the highly esteemed institute for health care and research that it has now become.

Talking about the positive step of including mental health care as a part of primary health care, he stressed that care should be taken to ensure the creation for human resources in the mental health.

The occasion was also attended by Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka, JP Nadda Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, Governor of Karnataka among others.
