“To deliver knowledge services for mental health and wellbeing”
At White Swan Foundation for Mental Health, we primarily work in the field of mental health awareness; where we focus on our well-researched and tailored content reaching various communities. Watch the video to learn more about our work and our editorial process:
A series of events that aims to establish an understanding of mental health in our everyday lives. This series is designed to bring mental health into conversations in both the public and private spaces that we occupy as communities. Moving Minds events take different forms including webinars, storytelling, panel discussions, theatre and music performances.
We develop and execute knowledge-led, participatory and employee-backed initiatives for workplaces to help them create mental health-friendly work environments. While understanding the importance of access to mental health services, we believe that employees are likely to take advantage of these services better when workplaces speak the language of openness and inclusivity.
We do NOT offer counseling, rehabilitation or direct psychiatric health services.

On February 14th, 2013, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) held their Institute Day celebrations. On the occasion, Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Mindtree Ltd., during his keynote address stressed upon the role of knowledge in eliminating the various challenges that plague the mental health sector in India.
Subsequently, under Subroto’s leadership, Manoj Chandran carried out the necessary research of the mental health sector in India and the best practices in a few developed countries. Inputs were taken from mental health professionals and social entrepreneurs working in the sector from across the country to put together a vision for White Swan Foundation for Mental Health.
With support from Dr P Satishchandra, the former director/vice chancellors of NIMHANS and other psychiatrists from the institute, the organization was incorporated on March 25th, 2014 as a not-for-profit organization under Section 25 of the companies act.
Watch Subroto Bagchi share the personal story that led to the genesis of White Swan Foundation:
The white swan is positioned swimming right to left, opposed to the norm, against a herd of flock mentality. Here, the white swan is not a form but created from a counter form. There is nothing there–no form, no colour. She is just the white space. The reason we see a swan there is because the space is defined on the top by the shape of the swan and the blue rectangle. It is a Gestalt image where the mind makes the connections required to allow you to see a swan instead of space.
The swan, soft and gentle, captures a moment of caring. By her nurturing position you can almost imagine little baby swans swimming around her while the raised wing suggests movement, so you know she is gliding on the water. The Wedgewood Blue and the combination of capital and small lettering conveys, at once, our seriousness of purpose and the qualities of being approachable and caring.
