Resources on domestic violence

Bhumika Sahani

Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior displayed by a person living in a domestic setup where they physically and mentally harm (or threaten to harm) a person within the household. It is one of the most common forms of violence experienced by women across the world.

While sharing resources with survivors it is useful to give them resources of multiple professionals who will be able to help them navigate through their situation. These can include lawyers, NGOs, women’s organisations, mental health professionals and helplines.

Here are some resources that may be useful to someone in an abusive relationship

Handling abuse-related trauma in therapy is a series by White Swan Foundation in collaboration with Shakti. This series is a guide for mental health practitioners to help survivors of abuse heal with therapy. This series refers to survivors as women, however, we acknowledge that survivors can belong to any identity. The usage of the word "women" has been used to reflect laws that are focused on women as survivors of domestic violence, and other guidelines that are framed keeping women in mind.
