Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most effective and evidence-based therapies, that is beneficial for treating depression. But a computerized form of therapy, through a mobile app or website, is not so effective in the treatment of this mental illness.
A study by the University of York in the UK and others found that the therapy, which involves face-to-face interaction with the therapist has proved to be much more effective for persons with depression, especially the moderate to serious ones. CBT helps the person in changing the negative thinking pattern and behavior associated with depression by reasoning out and understand the ways to control the thought process. The study, which was conducted on 691 persons with depression from 83 general practices across England, was published in the British Medical Journal. Read the complete study here
