Staying well-informed about mental health, and having conversations about it with your teenager or student must, ideally, be a part of your role’s responsibilities as a parent/teacher. This said, mental health can be a challenging subject to bring up in a discussion in a way that is caring and supportive in nature.

In this latest column on adolescent mental health, our expert Aarti C Rajaratnam talks about the ways in which you can go about having this conversation with them. Use the strategies listed in the video and tell us about it in the comments below.

‘Knowing teenagers with Aarti C Rajaratnam’ is a fortnightly video column for parents, teachers, and adults who interact with teenagers. Each episode will share insights that will help the audience understand the adolescent mind and behavior.

Aarti C Rajaratnam is a clinical psychologist who has been working with children and teenagers for over two decades.
