Who We Are

White Swan Foundation for Mental Health is a not-for-profit organization that offers knowledge services in the area of mental health. We aim to provide patients, caregivers and others with well-researched content that will help them make informed decisions on how to deal with mental health issues. The White Swan Foundation team will collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations across the world to bring to you the best-in-class knowledge on mental health.

Our Genesis

During his keynote address at the Institute Day celebrations of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, on February 14, 2013, Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Mindtree Ltd., stressed upon the role of knowledge in eliminating the various challenges that plague the mental health sector in India. He called upon mental health professionals and others to empower people with the right knowledge so that they make informed decisions. Subsequently, under Subroto’s leadership, Manoj Chandran carried out the necessary research of the mental health sector in India and the best practices in a few developed countries. With tremendous support from Dr P. Satishchandra, Director/Vice Chancellor, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), and several psychiatrists from the institute and rich inputs from other mental health professionals and social entrepreneurs working in this sector from across the country, we put together our vision for White Swan Foundation for Mental Health, which was incorporated on March 25, 2014 as a not-for-profit organization under section 25 of the Companies Act.

Our Mission

“Deliver Knowledge Services for Mental Health and Wellbeing”

The White Swan, our Logo

Our visual identity has been designed by award winning graphic designer Sujata Keshavan of Ray+Keshavan | Brand Union. The white swan is positioned swimming right to left, opposed to the norm, against a herd of flock mentality. Here, the white swan is not a form but created from a counter form. There is nothing there – no form, no colour. She is just the white space. The reason we see a swan there is because the space is defined on the top by the shape of the swan and the blue rectangle. It is a Gestalt image where the mind makes the connections required to allow you to see a swan instead of space. The swan, soft and gentle, captures a moment of caring. By her nurturing position you can almost imagine little baby swans swimming around her while the raised wing suggests movement, so you know she is gliding on the water. The Wedgewood Blue and the combination of capital and small lettering conveys, at once, our seriousness of purpose and the qualities of being approachable and caring.
