How do schools influence students’ mental health?

A school functions as a community space where students interact with teachers, the principal, and their fellow students. They, the students, spend the majority of their waking hours here—making it imperative that the school becomes a place that prioritizes their mental health and wellbeing. This means that the people who are in a position of authority and who can influence how the school functions, like the teachers and the administrative staff, must be supportive and cognizant of students’ emotional health in schools.

In this video, Radhika S D’Costa, school counselor of Mallya Aditi International, Bangalore, talks about what changes occur in the case of adolescents when schools prioritize mental health on campus. This is the first video in a series about the importance of wellbeing among students.
