Knowledge is the first step to dealing with mental illness | Subroto Bagchi

What your father is going through is called a mental illness...meanwhile don’t bother him, don’t trouble him, and know that this is an illness.

These were words eight year old Subroto Bagchi heard from his mother who raised five children while also caring for her husband.

“Families that deal with problems together, stay together,” Subroto says talking about his childhood while crediting his mother to be his father’s and the family’s best ally.

Subroto’s personal journey inspired him to make a difference and create mental health friendly communities. This led to the establishment of White Swan Foundation in 2014. Watch Subroto Bagchi, chairman of White Swan Foundation talk about the impact that his father’s mental illness had on him and his family, and what he learnt from it.
